Supporting youth development and leadership, the Rotary Club of Hampton has collaborated with local primary schools to provide awards for public speaking through the Primary Schools Speech Competition, awards for Resilience, as well as the annual Friendship awards.
Friendship Awards are presented by Hampton Rotary to a Year 5 boy and girl selected by their peers as being the most friendly and helpful to other students. These roles are voted on at the end of the prior year and they become Friendship Leaders in their school for the coming year. A bookstore voucher and congratulatory letter are presented to the winners and their names are added to the School Honour Boards on display at the schools. In their roles as Friendship Leaders, these students initiate projects within their schools which they perceive as being beneficial to their fellow students. The students, accompanied by their parents, are invited to address the Club on their activities as Friendship Leaders towards the end of their Friendship year.
The Resilience Award is presented by Hampton Rotary to a student at the Berendale Secondary School, a special school for students with mild disabilities in Hampton East. The winner is nominated by staff, and selected on the basis of showing resilience in setting and attaining goals, participating in both sport and career development and with having a strong work ethic.
