PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE

It’s great to be back from our trip up to Cape York. We have five members also travelling at the moment. Looking forward to hearing about their travels in the forthcoming weeks.

Last week we had two excellent presenters speaking about the Wheelchairs for kids program. Our club recently donated money for 4 wheelchairs to be sent overseas.

We believe this is a valuable program and hope to do more to spread the word to school children in our local area by joining with another Rotary club to raise funds for more wheelchairs to be sent overseas.

District 9815 Conference will be held on March 28-30 March 2025 in Bendigo. If you are interested in attending the early bird rate finishes on 30th September. An email has been sent to all members with the first newsletter outlining all information regarding the Conference.

To celebrate Literacy month in September the Books for babies project was conducted by Jill Woolacott at Sandringham Hospital. She was ably assisted by Gill Merzvinskis who stepped in to help when Jill was unwell. Thank you ladies for all your efforts. We have Faye Pressbury coming to our meeting next week as guest speaker.

Don’t forget that the last Tuesday of the month is our Board meeting and the following Tuesday is Cup Day. We don’t have a meeting on either of these nights.

We are looking for excellent guest speakers for next year. If any club member has contacts or ideas, please speak to myself or Gill so we can put together a speakers program in the new year.

Until next week, take care.

Bev and Gill

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Delivering Neighbourhood Watch Newsletters

Our members have been out pounding the pavements this month!  We’ve been supporting Neighbourhood Watch Bayside delivering their newsletters.  Each member received a map, bag, and some newsletters to deliver in their local area.  About 150-200 letterboxes so it only took 1-2 hours at most.

The newsletter now covers all Bayside, so the name has become Neighbourhood Watch Bayside.

Eventually the newsletter will be dropped into 45,000 letterboxes by local deliverers.  Newsletters are delivered each quarter.

Anyone who might like join NHW and help deliver the newsletter in Hampton, Highett, Brighton and Sandringham, can get in touch with Geoff Bransbury OAM, Vice President NHW Bayside, gbransbury@gmail.com.

September Bayside Farmers’ Market

We had another great turnout for the September market, with fabulous springtime weather and Grand Final fever in the air! We’re seeing many new people coming to the market for the first time as well, enjoying the wonderful community vibe and range of stallholders. We’d like to thank all our stallholders for the fantastic line-up of fresh food and produce, coffee and take-away food vans, as well as live entertainment enjoyed by all our market patrons.

We’d also like to thank all our volunteers, who get up early to help set-up the market as well as manage the smooth operations on the day. It is certainly a big team effort to manage our market each month, so thankyou to all our volunteers.

The Bayside Farmers Market will be back again on Saturday 26th October and we’ll look forward to seeing everyone again then.
