FROM THE PRESIDENTS

This weekend we hosted our latest Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner event on Saturday 16th March and we’d like to thank our hosts for providing a delicious meal and great fellowship for our members.

Also this weekend, President-Elect Gill Merzvinskis is attending PETS training in Traralgon. This is being organised by our new District 9815. It is a good opportunity for Gill to meet new President-Elects from clubs in our new district.

Our last District 9810 Conference is being held next weekend in Warrnambool. There are eight members attending which is a wonderful result from such a small club. We will have a report and photos in next months’s Hampton Herald.

Lastly an update on the Regionalisation Pilot Project - the objective is to bolster collaboration between Rotary and Rotaract clubs, fostering greater synergy to effect positive community change. This initiative aims to facilitate extensive partnerships with governmental bodies, major corporations, fellow NGOs, and stakeholders across Zone 8.

At the heart of this endeavour lies the creation of 'Rotary Community Groups,' which redefine the organizational structure of clubs within the region. These groups serve as a pivotal mechanism to enhance cooperation and amplify the collective impact of Rotary and Rotaract clubs in the community while fostering broader partnerships with government entities, large corporations, other NGOs, and stakeholders. Bev and Gill recently participated in a zoom meeting with many of the other clubs in our community group which was a first step in putting faces to names. Our group includes clubs from the bayside area up to hubs in Frankston so we are in the early stages of getting to know members and their priorities and projects. We will keep you updated on progress.

Next Pre-School Screening Coming up on Saturday 20th April

Hampton Rotary Club, in partnership with Uni of Melbourne Audiology and Bayside City Council, and supported by Hampton Primary School, will be delivering the always popular FREE Pre-School Hearing Screening to Bayside children aged 3.5 to 6 years old on Saturday 20th April 9am-4pm.

In addition, we’re also co-locating a team from the Uni of Melb Physiotherapy Dept who will again be offering screening for Large Motor Skills of pre-school children as well. This has now become a popular addition to the pre-school screening program for over a year.

Thanks to Marie Arendsen for leading this project. Marie will soon be organizing the roster of Club members to volunteer to help out on the day. For further enquiries about this project, contact: Marie Arendsen at: arendsen.m.a@gmail.com

2024 Project Delivering Mental Health Training for High School Students kicks off in April

Our youth mental health project to directly assist young people in the local Bayside community kicks off this year in April, with all the Year 10 students at Sandringham Secondary College to participate in the Teen Mental Health First Aid training course.

Since the inception of this project, more than 700 students in total, across three Bayside secondary colleges, will have benefited from participation at this vital mental health training programme for teenagers.

The Teen Mental Health First Aid training course is developed and accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia, and designed especially for teenagers, and delivered in the school setting. The delivery of this training forms part of our project partnership with Brighton North Rotary, to help improve the mental health of youth in our local area.
