Bushfire Relief Fundraising at the Bayside Farmers Market – Saturday 18th January

We have all been shocked and stunned by the devastation of the bushfires that have ravaged parts of Australia, and the terrible loss of life and property. Many people have now been left homeless and much needs to be done to support them to rebuild their lives.

Rotary has established a Bushfire Relief Fund with all funds raised distributed around Australia to those local communities in need. At the January Bayside Farmers’ Market, on Saturday 18th January, Rotary collected donations for bushfire relief and raised $1,450. Thanks so much to the very generous Bayside community for their contributions to this fund.

Hampton Life Saving Club Starfish Carnival – Sunday 19th January

This a beautiful sunny day with the kids, mentors and parents having a truly marvelous time and t- shirts bought with the grant from Hampton Rotary very much in evidence. The event was attended by Hampton Rotarian Marie Arendsen.

A feature of the day was the presentation of a certificate to every child for their own unique special qualities.
The smiles on the kids’ faces in the photos are all that are needed know the grant was to-tally worthwhile.

Club Meeting Tuesday 11th February  - Surviving and Thriving Through Trauma - Guest Speaker – Tiffany Johnson

Tiffany shared a moving personal story at this week’s Club meeting.

Caught in the 1999 Swiss Canyoning Disaster, she was swept away in an avalanche of water that stole the lives of 21 young people, including 14 Australians and others from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Switzerland. The Swiss Canyoning Disaster captured the attention of the media around the globe including the New York Times, the Guardian in the UK, and the BBC.

Tiffany is a survivor and now empowers people across the globe with her message of living your best and bravest life, no matter what stands in your way. Now living with lifelong injuries from the disaster, she is now diabetic on an insulin pump. Her enthusiasm for life, being your authentic self and listening to your own intuition was infectious.

Hampton Life Saving Club (a recipient of Hampton Rotary Community Grant 2019-2020) will be holding an All Abilities Inclusion Day - a day of fun and water activities for the whole family. If you are available to help, or would like more information, please contact Marie Arendsen from Hampton Rotary on 0402 457 570.

School Hearing Readiness Program Kicks-Off This Year on Saturday 23 May – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

In preparation for the transition to school, children currently enrolled at kindergartens and childcare centres in Bayside are invited to attend a free hearing screening appointment.

The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the University of Melbourne conducts hearing screenings in the community for children aged 3.5 to 6 years of age. Their goal is to identify previously unknown hearing issues in young children that would, if undetected, have the potential to impact both short and long term speech and language outcomes.

Hampton Rotary initiated this project which has been running successfully now for a number of years and we will be seeking volunteers shortly to assist run this important project on the day.

For further information you can contact Marie Arendsen from Hampton Rotary on 0402 457 570 or Bayside City Council, Family Services Department on 9599 4755.
