Welcome to New Member – Hans Stahl

We are thrilled to welcome another new member to the Club – Hans Stahl. Hans, who recently relocated from Germany and works at BMW, was recently inducted at a Club Meeting this month.

Club Meeting - Tuesday 1st October - Grant Holland, Executive Director Holland Foundation (2018-2019 Community Grant Recipient)

Grant was a speaker at the Club Meeting on the 1st of October, to share the story of the Holland Foundation, one of the Club’s 2018-2019 Community Grant’s Recipients. The Holland Foundation is a registered charitable Foundation, which has a variety of programs all of which aim to empower rather than hand out. One of the most innovative projects is an on-site retail and office administration training program run from the Foundation’s Op-shop and office in a busy shopping strip in South East Melbourne.

In just over 6 years, 561 people in this program have been trained and helped to get employment.

It was enlightening to hear of the work being done by the Foundation, at a time when retail is proving challenging for many businesses. Their success at upskilling and building confidence in young people and creating a pathway for them into employment, is an inspiring success story.

Bayside Business Excellence Awards – Gala Event Thursday 3rd October 2019 – An Outstanding Success for Bayside Rotary Clubs!

The inaugural 2019 Bayside Business Excellence Awards was developed by five Bayside Rotary Clubs (Hampton, Brighton, Brighton North, Beaumaris and Sandringham), Bayside Business Network and supported by Bayside City Council to recognize and celebrate the outstanding performance of local businesses across the Bayside area. This was a unique project for Rotary, given that 5 Rotary Clubs, across two different Districts, worked collaboratively to develop and market the Awards program across the Bayside business community.

There were 11 different Awards Categories presented to winners at a prestigious Gala Event held on the 3rd of October at the Sandringham Yacht Club, which was completely SOLD OUT! With over 250 people attending, this was an outstanding stellar event which provided a unique opportunity to showcase Rotary, it’s Clubs and projects to the Bayside business community.

Trivia Night Fundraising Event on Saturday 12th October A Huge Success Raising Funds for Local Community Projects

What a fantastic night we had at the Rotary Club of Hampton’s Trivia Night Fundraiser on the 12th October. This SOLD OUT event, attracting more than 120 people, packed out the Hampton Bowls Club. Everyone was entertained by Funky Bunch, our hosts for the night, who conducted 8 lively trivia rounds, as well as quizzes and games throughout the night.

On the night, everyone supported this fundraising cause by bidding on a range of more than 40 auction items. A big thankyou to all the local businesses and Hampton Traders who supported this event by generously donating items for the auctions (…and a BIG thanks to Rhonda Pincott for her determined legwork to visit all the traders to secure support and donations of all the auction items on the night). We’d also like to thank the Rotary Clubs of Sandringham and Beaumaris who also supported this event by bringing along teams on the night as well.

Thank you to the amazing organizing committee (Annette Grime and Rhonda Pincott) for all their hard work in the lead-up to the big night, and all the Club members who assisted in the lead-up to the event as well as on the night.

This fundraising event helped raise much needed funds for Hampton Rotary projects such as our upcoming Community Grants Program, which provides grants for a number of worthy local community projects.

Christmas Cheer Coming to Bayside – Bayside Family Christmas Event - Tuesday 17th December

Hampton Rotary, in conjunction with Brighton Rotary and Hampton RSL, with the support of Bayside Police and Bayside Council will host a Bayside Family Christmas event for socioeconomically disadvantaged clients of BayCISS and Family Life. Vulnerable families with pre- and school aged kids (Under 16 years old) will be invited to join in some fun with games (lawn bowls, Jenga, ball games etc), followed by a traditional Christmas dinner and a visit from Santa (bearing gifts for the kids).

This will be the fourth year that this event has been hosted – and has been very well received by all who attended, with some great community engagement of this particular demographic. The evenings have been an amazing show of Christmas Spirit, and made possible by a dedicated bunch of volunteers (Rotarians and other Baysiders wanting to make a difference) and other members of Bayside Community together who have helped with donating their time and expertise – with hands on help with planning and organising the event, securing donations, sourcing presents plus much more. These generous donations enabled not just the kids attending, but also 100+ lucky children through BayCISS and Bayside/Moorabbin Police (Victims of severe cases of family violence) to have a little extra joy this Christmas.

Rhonda Pincott is representing Hampton Rotary on this year’s  organising committee, so if you have gifts to donate or want to volunteer your services to assist, please contact Rhonda at email: rhondapincott2014@hotmail.com

International Projects Update

Tonga Pediatric Hearing Feasability Study

Currently the Club’s International Committee is investigating the feasibility of rolling out the very successful paediatric hearing project to Tonga.

A medical mission conducted in 2012 which had participation from the Rotary Club of Nuku’alofa and the Rotary Club of Prospect in South Australia, identified that about 500 children at grade 1 and 2 at the main island found that about 30% of children had some sort of ear problem.  It was intended that this project continue to a further phase which would provide training to local Community Nurses with the intention of establishing a hearing screening program in Tonga. It was also intended that suitable audiology equipment be provided to the Ministry of Health to support a regular program covering the whole country. (45% of the estimated 120,000 population are under the age of 14).

To date, this has not happened, and hence Hampton Rotary propose to prepare a feasibility study to investigate how to develop and implement this countrywide screening capability to be based out of the four main island hospitals in Tonga.  This would potentially involve intensified ‘on-the job’ training, by Australian based technicians and supply of specialised equipment to conduct screening.
