Club Fellowship Night on 15 January a Huge Success!
What a great turnout we had for the inaugural event of the year! All members came along to start off the New Year with a relaxed evening at Milanos Brighton. The evening kicked off at 6.30pm with an a la carte dinner from the restaurant. This was a fantastic evening with members enjoying the chance to catch-up on holiday adventures and news.
Given the success of this evening, we have more such evenings planned over the coming months, so check out the calendar of events on our website for details at www.https://hamptonrotary.org.au

Great Day Out at the January Bayside Farmers’ Market!
What a fabulous day we had for the Bayside Farmers’ market on Saturday, 19th January. The summer holiday vibe was in the air, and shoppers were out in force to take advantage of the fantastic produce from stallholders as well as make the most of the beautiful sunny day.
Hampton Rotary this month was supported by Sandringham Lions who did an absolutely fabulous job assisting to provide additional volunteers who helped man the gates, assist with traffic management as well as the bump-in and bump-out set-up. We wish to thank all the volunteers for their support and help to make this the great event it has become amongst the Bayside community.

Youth Projects Update

Hampton Rotary Supporting WhiteLion Project To Assist Secondary Students Become “Work-Ready”
Last year, the Club heard of the fantastic work being done by the WhiteLion organisation to assist young people through a range of development projects. One of these is the very successful Mock Interview Program which assists students from Years 9 to Year 12 to become “work-ready”. Volunteers conduct short interviews with students as well as provide feedback on their resume, presentation and performance. This is a great project now seeking more volunteers for the next program to be conducted at the Cheltenham Secondary College from 9am to 3pm on Wednesday 6th March. If you have the time available and business experience to share with students, you can contact Christine Lindsey for more information on 04219 1620 or email: Christine.lindsey@gmail.com

School Hearing Readiness Program Kicks Off This Year on Saturday 4 May
In preparation for the transition to school, children currently enrolled at kindergartens and childcare centres in Bayside are invited to attend a free hearing screening appointment.
The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the University of Melbourne conducts hearing screenings in the community for children aged 3.5 to 6 years of age. Their goal is to identify previously unknown hearing issues in young children that would, if undetected, have the potential to impact both short and long term speech and language outcomes.
Hampton Rotary initiated this project which has been running successfully now for a number of years and we will be seeking volunteers shortly to assist run this important project on the day.
For further information you can contact Marie Arendsen from Hampton Rotary on 0402 457 570 or Bayside City Council, Family Services Department on 9599 4755.

Plant-A-Tree Challenge - Save The Date Saturday 1 June 2019
Plant-A-Tree is a Rotary project rolled out around the globe. Last year, there was a global challenge initiated which set a target of planting 1.2 million trees in 2018 (one for each & every Rotarian)! This was in response to the recognition for Rotary to take a proactive approach to environmental sustainability and find ways to address concerns arising from climate change and global warning.  This year, Hampton Rotary is again proposing to work with the local community and Council to plant more trees along the foreshore.  Save the date for this year’s challenge: When: Saturday, 1 June: 10am-12noon For more details contact:Geoff Tickner, Rotary Club of Hampton Mobile:0412 834 347Email: Geoffrey.tickner@bigpond.com

International Projects Update

Nokor Tep Women’s Hospital in Cambodia To Hold Opening Ceremony in March 2019
The Nokor Tep Women’s Hospital in Cambodia is nearing completion and an Opening Ceremony will be held at the Hospital in March 2019. This is a very exciting milestone in the development of this pioneering project that will revolutionize the medical care of women in Cambodia.
The Rotary Club of Hampton had supported a project which involved volunteers from the Nokor Tep Foundation Australia, Hampton Rotary and other Rotary Clubs working at the Rotary “Donations In Kind” warehouse at Footscray in Melbourne, to sort and pack medical supplies, uniforms and linen. Based on the requirements for the hospital as determined and advised by the Nokor Tep Foundation Cambodia, some of these supplies were earmarked for inclusion in a 40’ container that was shipped to the hospital last year.
Another container of medical supplies will be sorted and packed throughout 2019 and details will be available shortly of days when volunteers will be required to assist with this project.
If you are interested in being involved, contact Christine Lindsey at Christine.lindsey@gmail.com. You can also check out full details on the Nokor Tep Foundation and the Hospital at: www.nokortepaustralia.org.au.

Rotary Donations-In-Kind Open Day Saturday 23 March 2019
Many Rotary local and international projects have benefited from access to the vast resource of supplies available at the Rotary Donations-In-Kind warehouse in West Footscray. The recent Hampton Rotary project which involved shipping a container of medical supplies to the Nokor Tep Hospital in Cambodia is one example of where the DIK warehouse has been an essential resource.
The Open Day at the warehouse is a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand what supplies are available, have a tour of the warehouse, and meet Rotarians from different Clubs to come together and exchange ideas.
More details on the Open Day will be available soon but note this date in your diary now! For further details contact Christine Lindsey at: Christine.lindsey@gmail.com
