Melanie Tighe will be presenting about all the great work the community Centre is doing in the community - outreach on the public housing estates, involvement in youth network, organising RUOK mental health event.
Melanie is the Manager of the Highett Neighbourhood Community House & the Hampton Community Centre. Kate Knight is the Events Co-ordinator. Both centres are not for profit organisations that deliver low cost socially inclusive activities and events to the community.
Annually over 60,000 people visit the centres which are in Council owned buildings but operate independently of the Council. Approximately 20% of their income comes from Council. Staff at the Centres also oversee outreach to 2 local public housing estates and provide breakfast & homework club for primary age children and active activities for seniors.
They are currently engaged in co-producing a seminar on Social Prescription on RUOK day for health professionals and a Bayside community expo showcasing to residents what is out there if they want to get involved.
