Support for St Kilda Mums

Donations of Baby Items to St Kilda Mums  - a True Community Project!

The Community Committee identified a project to provide a range of items to St Kilda Mums, to support needy families. Rhonda Pincott (Community Chair) did a shout-out to the Hampton and Highett communities seeking donations of baby and children’s items. …and was astonished at the generosity of the local community.

There are so many generous people in our area and we have been overwhelmed by the donations - so many beautiful and much-loved baby items – clothing, car seats, strollers, baby & cot blankets…the list is endless! Such great community spirit and support for those families in need. A range of additional baby toiletry items which have been funded by donations to our Club were also included in the baby packs as well.  We extend a huge thank you to everyone who donated.

In this COVID world, we also had to do things a bit differently as well. Although the intention was for Club members to help sort and pack the items, the current restrictions meant this was not possible. So a big thank you to Rhonda (..and her daughters Jane and Tess) who helped to sort and pack the items ready for pick-up to St Kilda Mums. This was a huge job…but so worth it! What a great community project!

Previously, in December 2019, Hampton Rotary members visited the St Kilda Mums warehouse in Clayton and were given a tour of their facilities.

Thanks so much to Karen and Lisa for showing us around and sharing the St Kilda Mums story. St Kilda Mums is an amazing organisation which recycles nursery equipment including cots, prams and car seats, as well as clothes and other baby essentials. They give the items to people who are facing a variety of challenges and want them to feel uplifted when they receive something from them.

After the tour, Rotary members who attended were then invited to volunteer some time to pack nappy bags as well as toiletry items that will be distributed to needy mums before Xmas. Special thanks to Rhonda Pincott who also sourced some donated toiletry items that were also included in these special packs.

Also, a special shout out to Amanda Skillet and Marie Anderson who brought along amazing food and beverages to share with members on this special outing.   Our visit to St Kilda Mums was a great opportunity to take part in a community project that we can see delivers significant assistance and support to needy families.  Thank you for the opportunity to be involved.
